Rylie Roberts has written the best first book I have read by a first time Author. Chasing Happy is truly that in reading this story. Lara finely has her first job and it is a dream. Reed is an arrogant, focused, demon driven, wealthy business man. They both have horrid past that influences the idea of ever finding Happy. Lara has Kade, her protector and roommate. Reed has four best friends with whom he grew up. Their lives collide on a rainy morning in Dallas and then the Chasing begins. The painful revelations of each of their past is heartbreaking. The struggles to understand each other and how to be in a relationship are wonderfully written.Rylie Roberts’s storytelling voice is great to read. I was given this book. I very much enjoy this story. I look forward to more stories from Rylie Roberts. I am so glad I got to read this book, I think you will be too. Give a new author a try; it will be well worth your time.

Millionaire mogul meets bashful beauty and the sparks fly!
Reed Prescott has it all, all except love that is. Of course, he believes that he's perfectly happy with his revolving bedroom door until he meets Lara and realizes what he's missing. Lara Hunter has just accepted a job in her chosen field and is looking to make her mark. When an accident throws these two together, the adventure for both begins, and neither will ever be the same.
The characters in this book are fun to be spend time with, even at their worst. Watching Reed navigate the waters of a woman who is honest, caring and has no ulterior motives is a refreshing change from traditional love stories. Lara has finally gotten her dream job, and is eager to prove herself. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but will that be enough to drive out the demons from their pasts?
The secondary characters are also well-developed and fun to get to know. Kade, Lara's roommate, is adorable and I can't wait to see more of him. Reed's family, particularly his sister Candy & his brother Bray, are essential to keeping Reed on the right track. Margaret, Reed's secretary, is a priceless gem who tells it like it is.
As with all good performances, the author left me wanting more at the end of Chasing Happy. Can't wait for the next book!!!
On her first day of her new job, Lara is freaking out over starting, and things seem to go from bad to worse. As she's on her way to work, she ends up falling in front of a moving car. Reed was more worried about being sued than anything else, and throws Lara in his car to have her looked at and taken care of. Neither one of them could have predicted how much that one event would change both their lives forever.
Lara is cute and a little niave when it comes to Reed. She thinks one thing about him and ends up making a fool out of herself. Reed at first just wants Lara in his bed, but the more he gets to know her, he knows there is something special about her and wants to hold on for as long as he can. Lara and Reed definitely have a unique relationship, and I enjoyed seeing the two of them work through all of the things in their past, and try to make things work. I must admit, at first I was NOT a fan of Reeds, but he definitely grew on me throughout this book.
Reed pulls out all the stops to get Lara to fall for him, but Lara doesn't see herself how everyone else does, so she can't figure out how someone like Reed would want anything from her. Lara does have some self esteem problems, but a lot of that comes from her past as you will learn in this book. She is quite a feisty character, and I loved seeing her keep Reed on his toes a lot in this book. The one thing that bothered me, is where everyone else could see Reed was in it for the long haul, she really doubted it a lot and it was frustrating at times.
Things between Lara and Reed are definitely hot, and you can feel the chemistry and attraction radiating off of them in this book. When they finally do give in, things are extremely hot between them. Reed knows what he's doing and Lara is enjoying every single second of it. It was kind of funny to see Reed trying to control himself, the ice-pack? I was laughing out loud at this point in the book.
Both of these characters are strong willed, and great by themselves, but put them together, and it's amazing. Reed softens a lot in this book with the influence of Lara, and Lara starts to see herself how Reed and others see her. She needed to have a little more faith in Reed at times, but how their story ended was beautiful. I did feel as if the ending was rushed, but how things ended up for Reed and Lara was awesome. I will definitely be reading more from Rylie Roberts as this book was beautifully written and the story was strong!
Chasing Happy featured some decent characters, but the Chinese references seemed to be a bit off, and the ending was rushed.

Unfortunately, on the first day of her new job in the city, she was almost run over by a business tycoon Reed Prescott. Reed, not harboring any questions, took her to his office and have his staff help clean her up, as he was trying to ward off a potential lawsuit. But Lara surprised him again and again. When properly made up wearing high-end business fashion, Lara is transformed from a mousy soggy girl to captivating power beauty... and Lara actually works at one of the companies he owned, and she even speaks Mandarin, perfect for helping him manage his latest Asian acquisition. Lara's prior wounds also reminded him of his own dysfunctional family, which drove his ruthless business tactics. But now, as the potential for love is in front of him, will he choose to chase happiness?
I find the ending a bit rushed and too Pretty-Woman like. Reed wasn't that deep of a character, even as he struggled to transform himself from a ruthless business shark to someone who's a bit... more. The initial confusion (Reed mistook Kade as a potential competition) was kinda cute, but that went away pretty quickly. Somehow the Chinese references don't quite ring true, as I do speak Chinese personally.
